Map 2: Southern Thailand

To the south there are many islands that line the coastline. Road transfers to a number of local ports along the coast between us and Trang are cheap and easy to arrange. This area tends to appeal not so much to the more adventurous but certainly to the fitter and more experienced. The stretches between the islands can take a few hours to cross but are certainly worth it. The beaches on many of these islands are stunning. Some have basic resorts that you can use but many people choose an empty beach to set up camp for the night. You can start and finish at any point you chose along this coatline, taking in as many or as few islands as you please. Many people have started or finished their expedition at Koh Lao Liang, an island just south of Kantang.

Koh Lao Liang itself is a privately run island with a unique style. It offers a relaxing place to soak up the sun, go snorkelling off the beach or more energetic activities like sport climbing and fishing. Accomodation can be arranged for you and this includes three meals a day while staying there.  A perfect way to settle before a big expedition or relax after one!

Some of the highlights along the way are; mangroves around Koh Lanta, amazingly white sand beaches and crystal clear waters of Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai, the Emerald Cave at Koh Muk and the oppurtunity to spot manatees along the coast at Pak Meng.
